When is the best time to visit the Terracotta Warriors?

To avoid crowds, the ideal visiting times are within the first hour after opening (8:30–9:30 AM) and the last two hours before closing (after 3:30 PM in low season, after 4:00 PM in high season). Tuesdays to Thursdays are generally less crowded, while weekends and public holidays—especially during Labor Day (May 1) and National Day (Oct 1–7)—can see up to three times more visitors.

The best months to visit are April–May and September–October, with pleasant weather. July and August are hot but can be paired with the evening “Song of Everlasting Regret” show at Huaqing Palace for a complete experience.

For photography enthusiasts, visiting on an overcast or rainy day provides softer lighting for better shots.

Tip: Between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM, most tour groups break for lunch, so the main Pit 1 is usually less crowded during this time.
